Whitehall officials are drawing up a controversial adult social care inspections system after the passing of a new law.

Whitehall officials are drawing up a controversial adult social care inspections system after the passing of a new law.

It comes after the Health and Care Act, which received Royal Assent in April, created a new duty for the Care Quality Commission to independently review and assess the performance of councils' adult social care duties and gave ministers the legal power to intervene where ‘serious failings or risk of failure' have been identified.
