Can you afford not to respond to the Resources and Waste consultations?

The Government has explicitly committed to funding councils to implement the proposals in Defra’s new Resources and Waste strategy, says Peter Maddox. It needs local government input to the consultations that are open until mid-May.

With local elections, funding reviews and Brexit expected in the next few weeks, members and officers in local authorities have big to-do lists. It's difficult to find the time to take on less urgent tasks, particularly when money is tight. But what if I told you there could be a large pot of money, upwards of £1.5bn, put aside for local councils to plough into resources and waste management across the UK soon?

That's what's being offered by the UK Government to help local councils increase their recycling rates. Local authority waste management is set to transform over the next 25 years, kickstarted by Defra's new Resources and Waste strategy and four radical government consultations published in February. And the government needs your input.
