Ministers have denied there is an agenda to privatise the delivery of children's services – in the light of the issue gaining national prominence.

An open letter recently printed in The Guardian newspaper and co-signed by 37 academics expressed concerns that the Department for Education's (DfE) consultation on opening up children's services to the market would allow discredited commercial outsourcing companies to run child protection services.
