Ministers this week pledged to start a 'data revolution' so the NHS and local authorities get the information they need to improve the health of young people.

The announcement is part of a fresh series of actions to tackle child mortality rates, after ministers revealed 1,600 children could be saved each year if 'drastic improvements' were made to the health system. A survey of local health problems such as drug and alcohol use will be also be piloted.
