Don't allow the Treasury to divide and rule

As the Devolution Bill today receives Royal Assent, Heather Jameson explains why widespread rebellion over the finance settlement keeps spending top of the agenda

The news that the Devolution Bill has received Royal Assent will be a welcome distraction within the DCLG – anything to avoid talking about the local government finance settlement.

With nearly 50 Conservative backbenchers now threatening to rebel, it seems local government finance has, for once, gained traction outside the confines of town halls and MJ towers.
