The problem of loneliness was highlighted over Christmas – as quite rightly we all want to make sure no one is alone during the festive season. However loneliness is an issue that affects people all year round and has a huge impact on overall wellbeing.
Facts published by the Local Government Association (LGA) just before Christmas paint a terrifying picture. People suffering from loneliness and isolation are associated with a 30% higher risk of having a stroke or developing heart disease. The impact of loneliness is said to be the equivalent of smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
