Amid Brexit confusion, what about LEPs?

Would it not be better to build strong, accountable devolution across the whole country and hand powers, responsibilities and funding to the combined authorities, asks Heather Jameson.

While the pantomime of Brexit rumbles on, it's sobering to recall that in just over one month's time we hit the latest deadline to withdraw from the European Union – come what may, if Boris is to be believed.

Despite all the contingency planning, panels and boards, we are still no closer to knowing what is going on – except perhaps that the Labour and Conservative parties continue to tear themselves apart as they focus on internal politics rather than the wider policy picture.
