Two more councils have changed hands in by-elections since the main 4 May polls and there were also signs the swing against Labour escalated through the month.
The Tories took an outright majority at Chichester DC when they snatched a seat from the Liberal Democrats by just three votes. But the Lib Dems gained control at West Lindsey DC by taking an independent seat. Tories had lost their majority on the authority on 4 May. The swing against Labour since 2003 touched 27.2% when the Tories gained at Wyre BC and they also took a seat at South Kesteven DC in a ward where both major parties had previously had an unopposed return.
