Apply social value 'across the board' town halls told

Councils have been urged to go beyond EU procurement thresholds and apply the new Social Value Act 'across the board' on all goods and services.

Councils have been urged to go beyond European Union (EU) procurement thresholds and apply the new Social Value Act ‘across the board' on all goods and services.

The new Act requires all public bodies from January 2013 to consider social value when awarding contracts, but the Cabinet Office has now confirmed that under EU procurement rules, it will only apply to local authority tenders worth more than £173,934.
