'Armageddon' warning over new round of spending cuts

Half of local authorities still have no idea how to plug their deficit next year even though 95% of them anticipate cuts, according to an exclusive MJ survey this week.

The results coincide with a Local Government Association (LGA) report warning of councils on the ‘brink of collapse' with two-thirds believing efficiencies will be running out by next year and that the total funding gap will be £12.4bn by 2020.
