Arts Council books libraries funding scheme

Arts Council England and LGA launch £200,000 fund to use libraries to promote arts and serve as sustainable community hubs.

Arts Council England and the LGA have launched a £200,000 fund to explore how library services can promote arts and culture within local areas and remain sustainable as community hubs.

The Libraries Development Initiative, which builds on the previous Future Libraries Programme, will support around 10 projects for a year from March 2012 with a maximum award of £20,000 per project.

Culture minister, Ed Vaizey, said the initiative ‘is an excellent opportunity for forward-looking library authorities to explore innovative ways of getting the best out of the services they offer.'

Applications are available through the Arts Council's website and shortlisted candidates will be contacted by 12 December 2011, with successful projects announced on 13 February 2013.
