Austerity is part of local government's DNA

After a fortnight on the conference circuit, I have come to two main conclusions.

After a fortnight on the conference circuit, first at CIPFA, then at the LGA last week, listening to various experts and pundits discussing the future of the sector I have come to two main conclusions.

The first is that local government managers and members are a pretty resilient bunch and can sit through endless graphs of doom and forecasts of catastrophe in the public finances without blanching and still go out and have a good time.
