Councils should produce summary versions of their accounts to increase engagement with the public, a past president of the Society of County Treasurers has suggested.

Andy Burns, who is also Staffordshire CC's director of finance and resources, made the intervention as the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) pores over responses to its consultation on simplifying local authority accounts.
