Authorities should become credit providers to boost public resources

More local authorities could provide credit to help other public services, a council chief who has overseen a £100m loan to a NHS trust, has suggested.

More local authorities could provide credit to help other public services, a council chief who has overseen a £100m loan to a NHS trust, has suggested.

The council did not take on any extra borrowing in order to provide the loan.
