Authorities get fit for 2030

Local government needs to accelerate change and grasp the opportunities offered by devolution if they want to stay relevant in 2030, says Paul Deegan.

In the aftermath of COVID-19, there is a golden opportunity for the sector to build on the positive collective response from local government to work in a different way.

Now more than ever before the UK needs its councils to do more than survive. It needs them to be relevant, proactive, engaging and resilient – capable of supporting local populations and economies to realise their ambitions as they look to recover and rebuild.
