Giving local authorities the power to increase tax on empty homes could raise as much as £215m a year, a report by the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) think-tank has found.

The report argues that local authorities should be allowed to determine their own banded council tax premiums on long-term empty properties by removing the 50% cap.
