Nearly six out of 10 people want councils to retain the power to inspect buildings and hold landlords to account, a survey in the aftermath of the deadly Grenfell Tower fire has discovered.

Nearly six out of 10 people want councils to retain the power to inspect buildings and hold landlords to account, a survey in the aftermath of the deadly Grenfell Tower fire has discovered.

The survey, conducted on behalf of the Association for Public Service Excellence, found that 59% of the respondents felt that building inspections should be carried out by council-employed inspectors instead of privately-employed consultants.
