Local authorities across Greater Manchester urge ministers to save one of the armed forces' most iconic units – the 2nd Battalion.

Local authorities across Greater Manchester this week urged ministers to save one of the armed forces' most iconic units – the 2nd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

The Association of Greater Manchester Authorities (AGMA) voted last week to back a campaign to save the regiment, which dates back to 1674 and is due to be scrapped by the Ministry of Defence as part of cost-cutting measures.
