A lawyer has claimed up to 5,000 current and former staff at Wolverhampton City Council could make new equal pay claims, as figures reveal the local authority set aside almost £19m last year for settlements.

Speaking to The MJ, Equal Pay Legal director Darren Smith said many former council workers are still not aware they can make a claim against a former employer up to six years after they stopped working for them.
