Chancellor George Osborne's Autumn Statement gives local government very little time to react ahead of the 19 December deadline for the sector's financial settlement.

The chancellor will, it is expected, confirm low economic growth and higher borrowing effectively means the continuation of austerity measures in public finances until 2018.
