Autumn Statement: Where is the social infrastructure

Devolution isn’t just about roads and railways, so where is the chancellor's measures to meet care needs, particularly for children's services, asks KMPG's Katie Johnston

The Chancellor has come under fire from local government and NHS commentators for the absence of a single measure to address the social care funding crisis in his first Autumn Statement.

Given the deteriorating state of the public finances - compounded by growing demographic and wage pressures in the local government sector - his reluctance to find new money is understandable.
