Avoiding a 'make it so' mentality

The MJ’s series of articles on avoiding organisational failure continues with a look at the importance of prioritising the telling and hearing of uncomfortable truths.

One question should be added to every job interview for a senior leader post in local government: Are you prepared to tell truth to power and can you demonstrate that you have ever done so with any effect?

And those on the panel should similarly have to declare that they will welcome such truths and not seek to silent, belittle, embarrass, gaslight or undermine those that do so – and be able to evidence their claim.
