Axed watchdog will still need new chair

DCLG to shortly begin search for new chair of the Audit Commission, despite ministers' pledge to axe watchdog by the end of this year.

The DCLG will shortly launch the search for a new chair of the Audit Commission, even though communities secretary Eric Pickles had pledged to scrap the watchdog by the end of this year.

Current commission chairman Michael O'Higgins will end his term of office in September 2012, having completed the maximum two terms.
