Councils are spending over £93m a year on bed and breakfast accommodation, a figure which is nine times the amount in 2010 according to analysis by the Local Government Association.
There are currently 7,040 households in bed and breakfast accommodation, up from 2,450 a decade ago, due to the lack of social and affordable housing. Latest figures show that councils in England were forced to spend £93.3m on B&B accommodation in 2017/18, compared to £10.6m spent in 2009/10.
