The growing number of children being taken into care in England can be traced directly back to the ‘Baby P' case, council bosses have said.

Figures published last week by the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) revealed councils made a record 903 care applications involving vulnerable children in January. Cafcass said it received 8,403 applications between April 2011 and January 2012, which was 12.4% more than the previous year.
