Battling the booze

Getting the balance between the health risks and economic benefits of the sale of alcohol has been a problem for authorities across the country, explains Dr Tom Scanlon.

In April 2013 the responsibility for improving public health moved from the NHS to local authorities along with a team of public health specialists well versed in the problems that injudicious alcohol consumption can bring.

Although there have been recent positive national trends in alcohol-related harm, in Brighton & Hove this remains a challenge.
