Apprenticeships have a long tradition in this country dating back to the 12th century. Thanks in part to this system of young and keen learning from experienced and wise, important knowledge and know-how was passed on through generations enabling trades and crafts to exist, develop and flourish.
In short, apprenticeships have played a vital and integral part in our industrial development and history, and remain as relevant and important today. This week, Lambeth announced its intention to increase the number of apprenticeships the council and its supply chain generate by 25% from 150 currently to 200. How? Planning application and procurement processes are key levers and mean we will ask those we do business with to ensure that apprenticeship opportunities are created and offered locally as a condition of any contracts we sign.
