The Big Reshuffle

Throughout the UK, local government reorganisation is gathering momentum, with significantly more interest in devolution than anticipated. But, despite the level of interest, there is still plenty of district disgruntlement.

The Government's rapid timetable for local government reorganisation has fanned the flames of council conflict with the passing of the deadline to be part of Labour's new priority devolution programme.

With the smoke practically still in the air from New Year fireworks, counties rushed to agree formal postponements of this year's local elections so they could bid to be in the first phase of the Government's enhanced devolution plans.
