Birmingham City Council loses landmark equal pay case, opening door to claims from tens of thousands of low-paid female staff.

Birmingham City Council has lost a landmark equal pay case, which opens to door to claims from hundreds of thousands of low-paid female staff in local authorities across the country.

Judging in favour of 174 former town hall cleaners, caterers and care staff, the Court of Appeal ruled the women had the right to pursue their combined £3m compensation claims in the High Court.
