Blackpool Council has withdrawn its application for city status just before last Friday’s deadline.

Blackpool Council has withdrawn its application for city status just before last Friday's deadline.

Council leader Simon Blackburn, whose Labour group took control of the council after May's elections, scrapped the resort town's bid to become a new British city in a competition commemorating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee next year.
