GP commissioning boards outlined in the Health and Social Bill need more democratic accountability, council chiefs have warned in a letter to health secretary, Andrew Lansley.

The comments by the Local Government Association (LGA) are similar to concerns raised by Liberal Democrat MPs, who have argued local authorities should either sit on the boards or oversee them.
