How to boldly build fostering recruitment

Buckinghamshire Council’s plan to transform its in-house fostering services has created a proposition to both attract new foster carers and retain the valued teams of current ones by offering some unique incentives and perks, says Jo Baschnonga

In March 2024 we decided to take an ambitious and proactive approach to growing and enhancing our foster carer provision in Buckinghamshire. We set out to transform our in-house fostering service, to create a modern, professional and fit-for-purpose fostering proposition to attract new foster carers and retain the valued community of carers we already have.

To position our in-house fostering service as the ‘go-to' in Buckinghamshire, we needed to get smarter at competing with Independent Fostering Agencies (IFAs).
