'Bonfire of quangos' cost poised to reach £830m

A report by Whitehall's spending watchdog says David Cameron's 'bonfire of the quangos' will cost almost double what was estimated.

Prime minister David Cameron's ‘bonfire of the quangos' will cost almost double what the Government initially estimated, according to a report by Whitehall's spending watchdog.

Instead of the predicted £425m, the National Audit Office (NAO) now estimates the transition costs for scrapping quangos and restructuring public bodies will be at least £830m.
