'Boost communities' to ease impact of cuts

Strong networks of local residents should be used to protect communities worst impact spending cuts, RSA reports.

Strong networks of local residents should be encouraged to protect communities from the worst impacts of impending spending cuts, a leading think-tank reported this week.

Given the demise of large-scale investments in area-based regeneration and neighbourhood renewal schemes, local and central government need to support the strengthening of social relationships and turn ‘strangers into neighbours', a paper issued on 16 January by the Royal Society of the Arts suggests.
