A substantial increase in local government pay would recoup millions for the Treasury, trade union, UNISON, will say today.

UNISON's head of local government, Heather Wakefield, told The MJ that paying tax credits and other in-work benefits to local government workers on the lowest rates of pay was a ‘completely false economy'.
