Borough unveils plan for private trading company

Redcar and Cleveland Council is set to create a private company to allow the authority to trade commercially for profit.

Redcar and Cleveland Council is set to create a private company to allow the authority to trade commercially for profit, by exploiting new powers under the Localism Act 2011.

Under the Act's wide-ranging ‘general power of competence', local authorities have the legal capacity to do anything an individual can do which is not specifically prohibited by law.
