Wigan MBC's highly-regarded chief executive, Joyce Redfearn, is poised to take early retirement as part of proposals to restructure the council's top tier of management.

The proposals, which were due to be put to Wigan's full council on 11 January, are expected to save the authority £200,000 a year by reducing the chief executive's salary and removing one of the senior management posts.
