'Break down barriers' to information sharing

Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has warned it is 'essential' that barriers between health and social care organisations are broken down.

Health secretary Jeremy Hunt has warned it is 'essential' that barriers between health and social care organisations are broken down as London boroughs call for NHS officers to be held to account.

Speaking to The MJ after he appeared at a conference organised by Age UK, Mr Hunt said the Department of Health has a 'responsibility to make sure we break down those barriers' and that 'we need to talk to the Department for Communities and Local Government'.'But I think a lot of it is to do with financial incentives in the system that mean that people operate in silos and we have a payment by results system, which pays people for activity and not outcomes,' said Mr Hunt.
