Breaking the dependency on the 'Westminster Village'

Paul Wheeler explains how national organisations are turning their backs on the role of local councils and councillors.

For those who may be unaware of the Fabian Society, it was one of the organisations that helped found the Labour Party over 100 years ago.

Back then it was very big on 'municipalism', with George Bernard Shaw serving as a councillor in St Pancras Borough as well as being a founding member. Now, you would be hard pressed to see a councillor on its numerous platforms and publications.
