Brent LBC appoints Gilbert as interim chief

Former Ofsted head, Christine Gilbert, appointed interim chief executive at Brent LBC.

Former Ofsted boss, Christine Gilbert CBE, has been appointed interim chief executive at Brent LBC - less than two weeks after the departure of Gareth Daniel.

Prior to taking on the Brent role, Ms Gilbert - herself a former Tower Hamlets LBC chief executive – had served as HM Chief Inspector at education and children's care regulator Ofsted.

According to a council statement, Ms Gilbert will start her interim role in early November and remain in post until council leaders appoint a permanent replacement for Mr Daniel – who left after 26 years service with the council, including 14 as chief executive.

Brent LBC leader, Cllr Muhammed Butt said: ‘I am delighted that Christine has agreed to accept the post. She has a wealth of local government experience at the most senior level and will provide inspirational leadership to the council in the months ahead.'
