Brexit casts a long shadow

The UK’s decision to leave the EU will have profound consequences. Heather Jameson talks to Lord Kerslake about what this will mean for local government.

It is now nearly nine months since the UK went to the polls to vote in the European Referendum, but the reverberations of 23 June are only just starting to be felt.

The vote prompted a change of prime minister, a new government with a newly-created ‘Brexit' department and a challenge to the leader of the opposition. It provoked a crash in the pound, economic uncertainty and fears over increased racial attacks.
