Using Brexit to transform procurement

Local government is being stifled by a restrictive commissioning and procurement system but Brexit could offer a radical alternative route, writes Léonie Cowen

The UK should grab the opportunity created by Brexit to abolish much of the current EU-required legislation including public procurement regimes. This should be replaced with an outcome-focused approach to commissioning and procurement.

We only need regulation which will enable local government to promote and deliver wide-ranging partnership working, economic and social wellbeing (such as the northern and other proposed powerhouses).
