Bridging the funding gap for children

The Government’s response to a flurry of reports on children’s social care will make some things better, say experts – but there is dissatisfaction over the level of funding on offer and how it will be spent. Ann McGauran reports.

What is the difference between £2.6bn over five years for children's social care and £200m over two years? The answer is a huge pit of disappointment.

It is the gap between the couple of billion pounds for the wide-ranging recommendations and ‘total reset' that was called for by Josh MacAlister last year in his independent review and the cash the Government has come up with in its reform strategy.
