Get Britain working with health at its heart

The opportunity to arrest the rise in economic inactivity offered by Get Britain Working plans must be grasped, writes Matthew Taylor

Since the pandemic something dramatic has happened to our labour market: the rates of economic inactivity.

Although the UK has a relatively low inactivity rate – people of working age not in employment – compared to the rest of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, it has also followed a different path since Covid as inactivity levels have risen above pre-pandemic levels.
