Shortfalls between private rental levels and the allowances received by Britain's poorest tenants are putting households at risk of homelessness, according to housing charity Shelter.

The freeze to the Local Housing Allowance (LHA) and the overall benefit cap have left nearly three-quarters (70%) of Britain's poorest private tenants with a gap between their rent levels and the allowance they receive.
