Agricultural economies faced a double whammy this week, after a county chief warned rural authorities could struggle to find high-speed broadband providers, while campaigners urged councils to do more to boost Britain's countryside.

Speaking to The MJ, Steve Stewart said his local authority was looking for a private partner to roll out broadband access across the county, but added that rural areas such as Northumberland posed ‘large challenges' for IT firms.
