Birmingham City Council's leader was battling for his political survival this week as he faced down calls for him to quit over the long-running bin dispute.

The MJ understands that a leadership challenge is in preparation, with up to three Labour councillors vying to replace Cllr John Clancy but the group split on who should stand against him.
