Buckle up, it's going to be bumpy

Louise Round says districts have received small amounts of cash to help with planning for the impact of a no deal scenario, but this in no way compensates for the amount of time this planning is taking.

As I write this, the current plan, Parliament having just resumed after the Summer recess, is for it to be prorogued and if nothing else good comes of the current shenanigans, at least I shall have learned a new word. Might come in handy for Scrabble.

It certainly does look as though it will be a weird few weeks and fascinating as it is to watch national politicians deal with some tricky constitutional conundrums, in districts we are busy trying to anticipate the practical impact on our communities and staff. The prospect of another election in the next couple of months will fill our electoral colleagues with horror, particularly as they are currently in the middle of the annual canvass. This process is itself due for reform but the chances of finding enough parliamentary time to introduce the necessary legislation must be seriously in doubt.
