Low-paid council staff and town hall top earners will benefit from measures announced in chancellor George Osborne's Budget today.

Revealing what he claimed was 'the largest single increase in personal allowances' Mr Osborne said his £1,100 hike - raising the tax-free earnings threshold to £9,205 - would benefit more than 24 million people.
