Budget 2023: The promises made now call for action to benefit communities

The chancellor promised to give communities more control over their economic destiny, and this now needs to be backed up by action, says Graham Duxbury.

There was a lot to welcome in the chancellor's budget speech, which recognised that we need to level the playing field to ensure some people and places aren't further disadvantaged as economic conditions remain tough and climate impacts worsen.

We are glad to see the Government extending support with energy bills for a further three months and taking steps to tackle the injustice of higher costs for people on pre-payment meters. However, more needs to be done to ensure everyone is able to afford the energy they need to stay warm and well as prices remain high and continue to rise.
